Endonyo Rinka water and borehole project

The Endonyo Rinka community has faced chronic water shortages and as a result has suffered from all the consequences of water poverty. To solve the water supply problem within this Community, a borehole was dug and harnessed with a renewable energy pump, bringing clean water to the surface indefinitely. The project was staffed entirely by volunteers, and as a result it was run with no overheads and 100% of funding received went directly to the project.

The borehole supplies a yield of 40,000 litres per day and the clean water is sustainable. Through using a renewable energy source to harness the borehole, the expensive running costs often associated with projects such as this has been avoided and the community will not have to contribute any resources to maintain their water supply. In the long term, the sustainable energy pump will be cost-effective, reliable and will allow the community to manage their own lives.
