The Jephcott Charitable Trust was established by Sir Harry Jephcott in 1965
Background
Sir Harry was a pharmaceutical chemist and industrialist and in 1919 he joined Joseph Nathan, an Anglo-New Zealand company which marketed dried milk under the trade name Glaxo.
He became the architect of what is one of the world's major pharmaceutical companies, being largely responsible for providing Glaxo with the scientific base on which its prosperity depended.
He retired as Managing Director in 1956, subsequently becoming non-executive Chairman and later honorary life President. He was knighted in 1945 and created baronet in 1962. He endowed several charities. The Jephcott family continue to be actively involved with this Trust.
President
The Trustees report with great sadness the death of the Charity's President, Sir Neil Jephcott, who died on 12th August 2012. Sir Neil, son of the founder of the Trust Sir Harry Jephcott, was appointed a Trustee and then Chairman in 1989 and remained as Chairman until 1999. He was instrumental in reorganising the Trust and establishing the objective of making grants to organisations requiring start-up funds as well as implementing the sound governance procedures currently in force. His wisdom, generosity and guidance will be missed by everyone associated with the Charity.
The Jephcott Charitable Trust is run by Trustees with varied backgrounds, who generally serve for ten years. There is always one member of Sir Harry Jephcott's family acting as a Trustee. JCT trustees are:
